Chrome: 3 Hidden Features for Productivity

(you can easily filter previous issues by application!)

Hi friends - Regular followers know I love exploring Chrome's experimental features.

So for today, we’re diving into 3 lesser-known settings you should tweak to boost your productivity in Google Chrome!

Before we start

  1. If you want to follow along, head on over to: chrome://flags/
  2. You can undo all these settings, so there's no risk involved

#1 - Tab Scrolling

  • Jeff’s take: Personal Preference
  • Recommended setting: Enabled - tabs don’t shrink

Enable this flag if (1) You are a tab whore and (2) You don’t want tabs to decrease in size as the number of tabs reach the maximum width in the Chrome tab bar.

#2 - Tab audio muting UI control

  • Jeff’s take: Recommended for everyone

I have no idea why this isn’t enabled by default. Basically this allows you to click the Speaker Icon 🔊 in Chrome tabs to mute/unmute audio.

#3 - Camera and Mic preview

  • Jeff’s take: Recommended for everyone

This is a nice quality-of-life update. Enabling this flag basically allows you to preview (and select) the webcam and microphone for websites/platforms that require access (e.g. Google Meet, Loom, etc.)

What Chrome flags do you find most useful? Let me know in the comments!
