Google Tasks: Force others to do your bidding

(you can filter previous editions by application!)

I normally use Google Tasks via Gmail’s Companion Bar to quick capture ideas before transferring those notes to “long-term storage” like Google Keep or Google Docs:

Here are 3 other ways I make the most out of this underrated app:

Passive-aggressively assign tasks to others

If you’re in a Google Chat Space with other team members, you can literally assign them a task against their will 😉

Click on the "Tasks" tab with a Google Chat Space
Assign your colleague to a Task

And then they’ll see this pop on in THEIR Google Task list:

Do not abuse this power

You can quickly drag an email to your Google Task list

Use Google Tasks in a standalone website

Navigate to this link and see what happens:

Now you can access Tasks easily without relying on the Companion Bar

This is actually useful if you want to have a Google Task window always pinned to your Chrome browser!

⌨️ Keyboard shortcut

  • With an email highlighted in Gmail, press <Shift + T> to add email to Google task (without dragging)

I’m always looking for ways to improve so give me anonymous feedback here 📝
