Gmail: New Filter Feature

(you can now filter previous editions by application!)

🤔 What is it?

  • Gmail has updated its filters feature to include super user-friendly cards you can just click (instead of having to create your own filter)
  • If you are privacy sensitive, there’s also an option to turn off search history within your Gmail

🤷🏻 When should I use this?

  1. Filters is an extremely powerful tool within Gmail but creating your own could be a bit annoying for the everyday user
  2. You can how just click into the Search Bar within Gmail, and Gmail will automatically prompt you with several popular filters you can click into automatically (e.g. “has attachment”
  3. After clicking into a “filter card” you can add additional filters very easily (e.g. “has attachment” and “includes an image”)

📸 Instructions

You might have to wait a second when you first click into the search bar
You still have the option to create advanced filters

⚙️ Setting you might want to change

  • By default, Gmail saves all your searches to improve user experience (the searches are never used for advertising purposes)
  • If you want to turn this option off, paste this URL into your browser (https://myactivity.google.com/product/workspace/controls) and turn “Search History” off
