Google Calendar: Two Essential Settings to Change

(you can filter previous issues by application!)

Here’s the problem summarized in a single GIF

Now you have to go into your Google Calendar, find the event, and then check the “Modify event” manually.

Allow guests to modify event by default

I am known to be an easy-going person (not at all anal or uptight 🙃) but I force every single one of my new team members to adopt this tip on their first day at work:

  • Google Calendar Settings > General > Event Settings > Default Guest Permissions > Modify event

Now if the proposed time doesn’t work for your colleague, they can edit the event directly

💡
Pro tip: You can manually UN-CHECK the “Modify event” option for large team meetings or presentations

Bonus: Timezones 🌎

While you’re here you might as well:

  1. Display a secondary time zone
  2. Add relevant World Clocks

You’ll now instantly see the local time in those locations whenever you create a new event!
