Gemini: My Most Powerful AI Prompt of 2024

(you can easily filter previous issues by application!)

Hey friends - This may come as a surprise to some of you but I can be a bit selfish sometimes. I debated whether to share my favorite prompt of 2024, but my people-pleasing side won out. So here it is! 😉

The Background

Since ChatGPT 3.5's launch, I've wanted to create the perfect proofreading prompt.

As a full-time Googler, part-time YouTuber, and newsletter writer, I needed something versatile yet thorough - a prompt that could enhance any writing from emails to keynote speeches.

Essentially, I needed a prompt that was broad enough for various uses but focused enough to deliver quality results. And I think I've cracked it:

The Magic Prompt

Act as a senior copywriter with over 20 years of experience writing [end state].

I want you to improve my writing. I’ll share an excerpt and your task is to proofread the excerpt and provide recommendations based on the following criteria.

Break down each change and share the corresponding explanation for the edit before sharing the completed revised excerpt. Group these together using Headers for easy readability.

  • Trim the fat: Each sentence serves a clear purpose without excess words.
  • Improve the clarity of my writing so the reader can easily digest my message.
  • Look for and correct all misspelled words and grammatical errors
  • Use active voice throughout.
  • Where possible, use shorter synonyms of longer words, break up excessively long sentences into short ones, keep paragraphs brief, and use effective transitions.
  • Preserve as much of the original tone and style as possible, and do not add any filler content.
  • Use an informal yet professional tone: Use contractions and casual phrases while maintaining credibility.

Here's the excerpt:

How to Use It

The key is choosing the right "end state" in the first line. Replace it with your desired output, like:

  • "high converting landing pages"
  • "engaging email sequences"
  • "clear terms of service agreements"

I've also ranked the criteria (the bullet points) by importance, so feel free to remove lower-priority items as needed.

Try this out for yourself and let me know how it goes!
