Google Sheets: Using Chips for Efficiency

(you can filter previous editions by application!)

Finance Chips

I used to rely on the “=GOOGLEFINANCE” formula to keep track of my investments within Google Sheets

This formula gives you the stock price with a 15 minute delay

Now, you can just type in “@tickersymbol” to insert a Finance chip

Hovering over the chip will give you the most updated price (including a default 15 minute delay)

💡
Pro tip: Use ChatGPT to create a table with stock ticker symbols you can copy and paste directly into Google Sheets
After you have the table, just copy and paste into Google Sheets

Places Chips

I’m planning a trip to Hong Kong with a few friends and we can now easily insert specific restaurant locations using the Places Chips:

If you're in Hong Kong next week let me know ✌🏻

Date Chips

This is probably the least useful since typing the date out (e.g. 4/1/23) really isn’t that much work.

But if you wanted to quickly insert yesterday’s, today’s, or tomorrow’s date, you can simply use the Smart Chips feature as well:

⌨️ Keyboard shortcut

  • Get in the habit of always starting with “@” for Smart Chip options when using Google Workspace tools

I’m always looking for ways to improve so give me anonymous feedback here 📝
