[Workspace] Record Captions in Google Meet!

Workspace editions only apply for Google Workspace users (i.e. businesses), and are sent in addition to the regular weekly Productivity Pings

(you can always filter previous editions by application!)

🤔 What is it?

You might already be familiar with Google Meet’s “Captions” feature; it’s super useful when the speaker’s volume is a bit low, or if you struggle with understanding a certain accent.

Google Meet's caption feature is surprisingly accurate

You can now take this a step further by including captions in your meeting recordings:

German friends: Ich spreche ein bissen deutsche!

How to access the captioned recordings

  1. After the meeting ends, you'll receive an email with the recording attached
  2. Open it up and you'll find Google Meet has automatically "edited" the recording so that the speakers are attached to the corresponding captions:
The speaker will always take center stage

Funny, unrelated story: A colleague thanked me after I enabled this feature at work, telling me that I apparently speak to fast and he needed the captions to understand what I was saying.

I was like, “Whatttttt I don’t speak fast………”

🥲

💬 Supported languages (as of March 2023)

  1. English 🇬🇧
  2. French 🇫🇷
  3. German 🇩🇪
  4. Portugese (Brazil) 🇧🇷
  5. Spanish (Mexico) 🇲🇽
  6. Spanish (Spain) 🇪🇸
💡
Pro tip: If you don’t feel comfortable recording a meeting, you can always choose to just save the transcript instead!
