You can see all the groups you're part of by clicking into "My Groups"
I use Google Groups in the following two ways:
Use Case 1: Leverage the email alias
Being a part of a Google Group means you’re automatically part of an email alias (e.g. americas-marketing@tesla.com)
Composing an email
Instead of typing out the same team members every time in the “to:” field, you can use the email alias
Team meetings in Google Calendar
If you have recurring meetings with your team, include the alias instead of individual members so when people join or leave the team, you don’t have to edit each Google Calendar event (you just need to update the Groups membership once)
Comment in Google Docs / Slides / Sheets
You can notify an entire alias with a comment instead of typing out multiple emails
Use Case 2: Collaborative Inbox
You can create a Google Group for a specific project you’re working on and use that Email alias as a “Contact us” email address
Let’s say I’m going to host an Inbox Zero Workshop with my colleague Bill, I would create a Google Group with the two of us as members, and use the alias: inbox-zero-faq@jeffsu.org
In my emails to attendees, I’ll let everyone know they can send questions and comments to the above alias so either Bill or myself can respond
💡
Pro tip: This is a great way to engage with external individuals while keeping your own email address private
