Google Docs: Save time by setting a Default Font!

(a few of you reached out saying you haven’t received my career newsletter. As paid subscribers you already have access to The Debrief; you just need to login to your account and enable the subscription. Step 1 > Step 2 > Step 3)

Onto this week’s productivity tip

  • The default font in Google Docs is Arial, how boring 🥱
  • If you find yourself constantly switching to something else when starting a new document, you might want to change your default font!

📸 Instructions

First, type out a sentence and change it to a font that you like (I’ve always been a fan of Verdana, let me know your go-to font in the comments)

Then, highlight the sentence with the new font and navigate to:

  • Format > Paragraph Styles > Normal Text > Update Normal Text to Match

Then, navigate back to:

  • Format > Paragraph Styles > Options > Save as my default styles

To test this out, type "doc.new" in your browser's address bar, hit <Enter> and your default font should be updated!

(remember: you can always filter previous editions by application!)

⌨️ Keyboard shortcut

  • Highlight a word or sentence and press CMD+OPTION+M to insert a comment in Google Docs (CTRL+ALT+M for Windows users)

I’m always looking for ways to improve so give me anonymous feedback here 📝
