Google Docs: Turn OFF Useless Notifications

⚙️ Major Feature Update

As a paid subscriber, you can now comment directly on all my posts by viewing in browser. Click “View Online” to give it a try!

🤔 Onto this week’s tip

  • Turn off irrelevant notifications you receive in Gmail when an edit is made in Google Docs!

🤷🏻 When should I use this?

  1. It can be super annoying to receive notifications whenever someone makes an edit in a Google Doc that you own
  2. Yes you want to be notified when someone comments at you but what if they’re just adding a comment for themselves or “@” someone else?
  3. You can now turn off irrelevant notifications from within the Gmail notification directly

📸 Instructions

Click "Notification Setting" from within the Gmail notification
These are my current settings

⌨️ Keyboard shortcut

  • From within Google Docs, press “CMD+OPT+SHIFT+A” to open comments tab (yes 4 keys at once 😅)
You can open the comments tab with "CMD+OPT+SHIFT+A" and close with "ESC" key
