# [Workspace] Stop repetitive tasks with Variable Chips

## 🤔 What is it?

The use case for Variable Chips is a bit complicated so here’s a gif showing you how I use it:

Variable chips allows you to update multiple placeholders at once

## 🤷🏻 How does it work?

As you can see, **Variable Chips** act as “dynamic placeholders” that can be updated with a single click!

They are most useful in instances where the structure of the document stays more or less the same. For example:

- Weekly update emails
- Contracts
- Invoices

...to name but a few.

## 📸 Instructions

The easiest way to insert a variable chip is to type “@variable” in Google Docs:

You can then <Insert a New Variable> or pick an existing one:

You can manage all your **Variable Chips** in once place by navigating to the Menu bar > Tools > Variables

Of course, the **Variable Chips** themselves are useless without an actual use case (e.g. an invoice) so the next time you find yourself re-using an email or document, create a template with **Variable Chips** instead!
